You're wrong about this; there are just too many sources to cite, but for this one I wouldn't use a Wiki. In our early history most settlers came for religious, political and economic freedom, and usually all three. My ancestors were anabaptists, and in some areas of Europe they couldn't own land. Were all Americans the same faith? No. Maryland was Catholic; PA Quaker; Mass Puritan and so on. But they weren't atheists, Islamists or Wiccan in setting up colonies.
